Stuff White People Say

“My family never owned slaves…”

I have a one word question for that: RELEVANCE?

(Reference for the title statement “My family never owned slaves…”)

  1. It’s the radical individualism of whiteness at work protecting them from responsibility in combination with the naive conceptualization of racism and racial history promoted by white society.

Within that warped context, its relevance is obvious, “I don’t owe anyone anything, so don’t involve me in any reparation scheme“. Hah, even the word selection I chose when trying to channel the spirit of whiteness betrays the racism underlying that kind of thinking. “Scheme”, as though it were some sort of nefarious plot by those devious, yet lazy, people of color to stick it to whites. Of course we whites have to stick together to keep from being “taken advantage of” [/sarcasm].

  2. I find this white reactions when it comes to reparations just idiotic and plain racist. First point is that there will be always people who pay via taxes for reparations who weren’t involved, just because of a inherented dept for following generations. I pay reparations with my tax money to Jews.
The other point is that reparations for African Americans isn’t lost money, as whites seem to believe. It is redistributing wealth from which entire America would benefit.
And who asks members of oppressed groups if they want to pay for their own oppression like racial profiling and a racist “war on drugs” today or paying for police which kills them. Those most affected pay for their own imprisonment and whites benefit from that.

I think it is the arrogance and also stupidity about reality of life which comes from centuries of a relatively easy life. With that I mean that white America as a collective doesn’t know what it means to truly suffer like the people who are victims of their politics.
when I follow the news and American politics just right now with Georgia and now signing the treaty with Poland for fucking American missiles, I really believe that America as a nation is willing to destroy every nation willfully just to be in power and because of money and oil.
What can somebody expect from such people? They send their soldiers to their imperialistic wars which they watch comfortable on TV but they start whining when the gas price gets higher and give a shit about the rest of the people on earth.
But white America won’t be forever in the position to be arrogantly shitting on everybody else and then they will pay, I am convinced. So perhaps white America should be a little bit quicker in “understanding racism” and what it means.

  4. jw,

I don’t think our answers are mutually exclusive. There probably are some people who are operating out of arrogance, some out of stupidity, some out of naivety, and many out of however many permutations of these one can come up with. One thing I would change, and I have no basis in making the change other than hope, is that I would substitute the word “ignorance” for your “stupidity”, since stupidity is generally perceived as typically incurable, while ignorance has connotations of being eminently correctable.

It is my hope that white America will change, and so I choose to believe it is ignorance. But you are certainly right in everything else. White Americans have been too sheltered from the errors and grievously misconceived policies (in addition to the more maliciously formulated actions) it has thrust upon not only its own people, but upon the multitudes outside its own border.

There is much for which America must atone for, injustices too innumerable.

  5. Whites do not owe anything to anybody. Reparations, hell no. You have two choices either be glad you live in America, or move back to Africa. Perhaps Whites should pay for the one-way trip back.

If you want to talk about compensation, then fine. We pay you for the work you did under slavery, then you pay us back for all the welfare and damage caused by crime committed by blacks since the end of slavery. Further to the point, you can pay us for inventing, electricity, the automobile, the plane, and the train. Also, for the computer, the TV, etc. The list goes on and on. Finally, look at where you are now versus where you would be in Africa, and tell me who made out better.

The bottom line is this, whatever happened in the past is done, and nothing can change that. Just be happy for where you are now, and continue to work hard, and instill the same principles in your children.

  6. first, you forget the damage caused by whites after ‘Emacipation’ and during Jim Crow.
Then, why do you limit welfare and crime to Blacks?

  7. Inittowinit, thank you for that passionate tale for just how irrelevant the old “My family never owned slaves…” line is.

And that’s the bottom line. lol
